Over the years that Spirituality in the Pub has been running, we have seen growth from the first venue at Paddington to around 30 venues all around Australia... sometimes one closes for a time until it is reinvigorated by a new group, but most have run continuously for years - the champion being, of course, Paddington, which celebrated its 12th anniversary in May 2005!

By late 2007, there had been over 1200 SIP gatherings!

Be prepared now to BE AMAZED at the depth and breadth of SIP topics covered over the years, and by the extraordinary range of speakers, some well known Australian voices, some obscure, but all with something important to add to the conversation... here is as complete a list of venues, dates, topics and speakers as we are able to assemble!

WESTERN SPIRITUALITY IN THE PUB

"My Child is Addicted to Drugs and/or Alcohol"

Tuesday, 15th July

Victoria on Hyde Hotel, Hyde St Yarraville

Speakers: include Alan Murnane and Sue Nerrant

Alan Murnane is the Manager of Family Drug Help, a Statewide service supporting families affected by one member’s alcohol and drug use. He came to this work because of a strong interest in the role of the family in community, and a concern for the limited recognition and support of the role of family.
Sue Nerrant works with Glastonbury Child & Family Services in Geelong.

Fun-spirited religion

By NATHAN SIMPSON

When Janet Galos speaks about spirits and pubs, she’s referring to the heavenly kind - not the liquid. Nevertheless, in these modern times,

the pub seems a pretty good place to discuss religion. Later this month Mrs Galos will raise a glass and toast the inaugural meeting of

Wollongong Spirituality in the Pub at the Bulli Heritage Hotel. The first meeting will see educator, author and bishop Geoffrey Robinson

speak on the relevant topic: The Church in a Changing World.

‘‘We provide a fun and relaxing environment to talk about religion,’’ MrsGalos said. ‘‘Spirituality in the Pub is held at something like

26 pubs across NSW, including Jamberoo. ‘‘Our group is run by an organisation called Catalyst for Renewal, which basically comes under

the umbrella of the Catholic Church.’’ Wollongong Spirituality in the Pub is open to the public at the Bulli Heritage

Hotel on February 26 from 7.30pm-9pm (meals from 5.30pm-7pm ).

For more information contact Peter on 0439 918 307 or Janet on 4283 1722
